Victory: General Chemical announces it will close in Framingham
After almost a year of pressure from the citizen group, FACES (Framingham Action Coalition for Environmental Safety), General Chemical announced it would close it's Framingham facility. The hazardous waste transfer station that is located literally in a neighborhood and across from a school has been sited numerous times for health and safety violations. The company also had a chemical spill fifty years ago that has yet to be cleaned up and has formed a plume that is migrating under homes. Toxics Action Center and FACES will continue to push for a full cleanup of the site to make the neighborhood safe for all.
