Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine Internship

Toxics Action Center
At Toxics Action Center, we believe that everyone has the right to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and live in a healthy community.  Our mission is to work side by side with New England residents to build strong groups to prevent and clean up toxics, while developing long-term leaders for the environmental movement.  Since 1987, Toxics Action Center has assisted more than 700 community groups working to prevent and clean up toxic pollution in their communities.

Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine Internship
Toxics Action Center is part of the Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine, a diverse coalition of Maine-based organizations engaged in a public health campaign to phase out the long-lived toxic chemicals that build up in the food web and our bodies. Last year, we were successful in getting the toxic chemical BPA (also known as bisphenol A) out of children’s products like baby bottles and sippy cups. BPA is a chemical that makes plastics harder and is linked to health problems including learning disabilities, prostate cancer, and breast cancer. Now, we’re working on a statewide campaign to get BPA out of baby food and toddler food and a national campaign to pass the Safe Chemicals Act, to keep harmful chemicals, like BPA in check.
